The violence continues.

Words cannot express the sorrow that is felt when a loved one passes away. However, the violent death of a loved one leaves you feeling empty. The recent execution style deaths of three Newark residents has left a family asking why. The Newark Police Department and Mayor are baffled at why these senseless killings continue to happen. At first glance, anyone living in Newark can understand that violence has always been endemic to inner cities; so these deaths are not an aberration. The jobless rates are rather high. Violent crimes are high. Drug usage and abuse is rampant. So why is there an unbelievability about these particular murders? The reason is that this was not supposed to happen to these students. From all accounts, these were three college students who had made the decision to better themselves. They were in preparation to either return to or start college. With the summer almost coming to an end, they were just enjoying themselves before continuing their educational endeavors.

No one knows what goes through the mind of a killer, but there is no doubt that whomever is responsible for these murders have serious mental issues. The investigation is ongoing and the facts will ultimately become available. Regardless, these students did not deserve to meet their untimely deaths. The leadership in Newark needs to look in the mirror and ask themselves, "Are we doing enough?" The answer should be a resounding "NO". The political and police corruption is what is driving a lot of the crime in Newark. If the residents see the leaders not playing by the rules, then why should they. The problems of Newark, and any inner city for that matter, will continue to occur until an effort is made to build upon the foundation. . . the people.

Update: The alleged suspects have been apprehended and it appears that the "black on black" theory has been dispelled. It seems that crime does not discriminate. Now let's wait and see what new theory will surface to explain the inevitable that poverty, capitalism, and racism exacerbates the problem of criminality.

" Your destiny is predicated upon your decisions in life, regardless of what they are." Dr. BLR

YOU HAVE STATED THE REALITY OF WHY CRIMES ARE OCCURING AND WHY THE CRIME RATE WILL NOT DECREASE BUT IT WILL CONTINUE TO INCREASE RAPIDLY. THERE ARE NO EXCUSES TO ANY KILLING NOW A DAYS THE MAIN SENSELESS REASON IS MONEY WITH NO MOTIVE. YOUNGSTERS CONTINUALLY STRUGGLING TO MAKE ENDS MEET WHEN PUT IN ANY CIRCUMSTANCES ESPECIALLY THEIR LACK OF MENTAL ABILITY TO HOLD ANY JOB. BOOKER TALKS ALOT IN HELP YOUNG PEOPLE IN THE CITY OF NEWARK BUT THE REALITY IS HE IS ALL TALK WITH NO ACTION. THE CITY OF NEWARK WAS NOT LIKE THESE A GOOD 4 YEARS AGO WHEN WE HAD MORE CONTROL OF OUR CRIME RATES. YEAH ITS ALL GOOD WHEN THEY TELL US WE HAVE THE BEST ENFORCEMENT TEAM TO CRACK DOWN ON THE CRIME RATE BUT ALL I SEE IS MORE AND MORE KILLING AND WITH NO JUSTICE FOR THE LOVE ONES WHO ARE LEFT HERE WITH NO ANSWERS. WE HAVE TO SOLVE ONE PROBLEM AT A TIME TO ACHIEVE THE MAIN GOAL. LETS NOT TARGET THE MAIN PROBLEM WITHOUT SOLVING THE CAUSES. IF EVERYONE WORKS TOGETHER IN HELPING IN ANY WAY. EX: IF YOU KNOW A PARTICULAR PERSON IS PLANNING TO COMMIT ANY HENIOUS CRIME CALL OR REACH OUT TO ANYONE TO STOP THE CRIME BEFORE IT OCCURS.

Some may say it's how the individual gets raised that determines there actions, many of us were raised in poverty, that's no excuse. These murderers knew what they were doing. May they have some mental issues? Yes, but not the kind not to know right from wrong.

Killings in Newark have always been a problem. When it is going to get solve its a good question? I believe that the police ain't doing enough to stop crimes. Its sad how life of innocents have to end because of someone else mental issues or problems. However, mental issues can just be an excuse these people have a criminal background already and they should if learned their lesson, but i guess they choose to be criminals, so they deserve the maximun penalty

Jealiosly, is the key word in this case I believe. Inner city people who do not have the chance to succeed in life are angered at the world and those who get the last piece of the pie in front of them. So if a person is pushed into selling drugs, not getting a job, dropping out of school, they will turn to barbaric mesures to prove they are worth something "look at you now your dead, but i'm still living my personal hell"9146

EVERYONE that was directly involved in these murders should be put to death. I didnt say sentenced to death...i said put to death. Whatever happend to "an eye for an eye"? The severity and heartless acts that these suspects committed will haunt Newark and New Jersey for years and years to come. How many of us felt safe walking in Newark at night before this happened? The few that answer yes will definatly be rethinking that. We cant even relax and hangout with a few friends in public without being victims of senseless acts. What is this world coming to? (7885)

The crime rates in Newark are definitely a problem…the killings of the college students was outrageous…. this crime really made me question the minds set of the murders….i believe that something is definitely wrong with them mentally…I believe that our police system must set an example of the killers….because if they don’t the crime rates in Newark will continue to increase…(0230)

I rememeber when I first heard about the story I was out of town and it shock me to know it was college students. It could of been me a college student trying to work towards a goal but never acheived it because someone decides to go on a killing spree. The City of Newark is not doing enough for the young adolscence in the community if they did the percentage of arrest for first time offender would decrease.

These executions were senseless. Truthfully, the violence in Newark is the reason I pursue my education elsewhere. Part of the problem is children raising children and no one teaching right and wrongs. In some ways, it is a cycle of self-hatred and anger at the world. Newark is not doing enough when these persons first cry out. They are thrown into a system which has no plan to reform them. When they are released, they are worse, no education and the attitute of nothing to lose.*2232

There was absoluty no reason wh y these crimes where commited. Some people also believe that if the commit a crime right the will not get caught which is a bet what these suspects thoguht.(6018)

Is not a secret to anyone that Newark is know for being one of the most dangerous cities in the whole nation. However, the execution of these three students was one of the most outrageous crime ever committed in this city. Those students did not deserved to die that way, however it could have had been anyone in that playground that day. The problem laids on the fact that criminals are being incarcerated for all types of crimes; however prison is not changing who they are, is just postponing their next action until release. Very few criminals come out of prison with a different mentality and rehabilitated. Perhaps if more rehabilitation was offer in prison to all those criminals their life will have a turning point. # 5839

Newark is rough, one of the rougher cities in the nation. But these kids didnt deserve what they received. The individuals who allegedly committed the crime belongs to a gang that does this for fun. It just make you think what is America doing? No offense to those who fought to get to America to get a better life, but why is there no control over who is coming into our country? spc5294

Newark's mayor and police need to step up their game in protecting the citizens. They need to practice a strict form of deterrence to discourage criminals from committing deadly and violent crimes. Also people in Newark need to report crimes as they occur. The city must come together in order to fight the crime, violence, and corruption. SPC 5936

No one deserves to die the way that they did. It's very aggravating to think that something like this occured. Can whomever is in charge, the mayor, the police, stop talking about what to do, and just do something already. spc5965

This was a sad day when three college students were killed execution style. I have no idea what is going through the minds of the killers. Newark politicians and police department is corrupted and thats whats making putting the inner city in so much chaos. Nobody obeys the rules no more not even the people who pose to enforce them

Crime has been especially rampant in Newark in recent years. As you pointed out the police are simply not doing enough. They don't really put the effort as a unit to slow down and ultimately stop this increasing violent trend. The three students who were killed is one story in many that will follow.

The crime rates in Newark are definitely a problem. The killings of the college students was outrageous, this crime really can make one question the minds set of the murders. I truley believe that something is definitely mentally wrong with these guys. I believe that our police system must set an example of these killers, because if they don’t the crime rates in Newark will continue to increase more and more each year. SPC 6169

It is my belief that the people who committed this crime were just plain crazy. Unfortunately, what can you do when someone has no regard for human life? SPC 3027

It's a setup. We just haven't come realize that. The day we do come to that conclusion. We as a citizens in general won't be just another statistic. spc(8725)

I don't agree with you fully because how much can police officers do to prevent crime .There are a lot of horrible people out there but can you pin point them NO.I mean it's terrible what happen to those kids but could the police have stop it NO.

Totally agree with AB 1291.

Unfortunally nobody can stop anyone from commiting a murder. If there is one person out there wanting to kill someone it will happen. Like another writter stated, maybe the murders have some mental issues but not the kind not to know right from wrong.

Darnell I am well aware of this story and my heart goes to the families of the victims. In regards to the article, I feel the police are not doing enough. Crime is increase rapidly in Newark and police officers aren't taking any steps to decrease it. In my personal opinion, not even police officers can stop the crime that is destroying the city of Newark, Crime is always going to take place, that's a reality we as Newark residents have to live and cope with. But, I agree with the people stepping up to address the crime in Newark, just don't expect me to do so. I've learned to get to use to it.

I feel like people tend to criticize officers and different types of authority but noone seems to take action. Any of us can sit here and say "This should be done and that should be done", "Well why arent they doing it?". How about we do something for a change, stop depending on everyone else. Fight for that position and then YOU do something about it.Everything isnt always as easy as it seems. There is no way to stop someone from committing a murder.Sometimes you CAN look at people and tell what they may be capable of but there are some people you would never even think they would do such things. So really, how do you handle situations like these? Lock up all the ones that look evil? Lock up all the people with no money, just out here doing what they have to do to get ahead, whether its stealing or anything else.If they are not in college, put them under the jail because that means that arent trying to better themselves?
