What are we becoming in this society?

When I read about the police officers being killed in Oakland, California, my hearts immediately went out to their families and colleagues. It is a sad day for the law enforcement community. Yet, I am reminded of the young man that was killed by the police officer a few weeks earlier. What happened to the Community Policing concept? Are times getting that bad on the west coast? These recent events have the potential to exacerbate racial tension. As I was looking at the press conference I recognized the deputy police chief as a former classmate from the FBI National Academy. Initially, I was happy for his accomplishments, then I realized that this is the same individual that was not allowed to graduate with us because of some "racist" remarks he made to a woman who was with her family at a local eatery. So, what does this have to do with this incident, probably nothing. However, I did say that this situation has the potential to set things off. Leadership starts from the top and trickles down. I hope that I am wrong.

Well, it is a devastating news for civilians as well.If police officers are not spared from parolees's menace how about myself. In effect, it was said that California uses draconian laws as to the parole sentence .They even revoke parole based on technicalities which means they do not really offer parolees an avenue to rehabilitate .I am convinced that parolees are tired of their tough policies so they get mad at the legal system.on the other hand , i realize that there is a double standard because when a civilian get shot by a cop , i do not have to follow CNN news because my best friends tell me.However ,nobody has ever told me about this sad news until i surf the net .
My condolences go to their families as well.
They are heroes because they are lost for a great cause.

It is sad to news to see police officers and civilians are being kiled by one another. To me the questions to be asked is "How is this going to be resolved?" before a riot breaks out between the police and the citizens.
Like i said before it is sad to see young kids getting on the their back with handcuffs on, and police officers being killed while doing their job........RP 4743

The phrase is often said, "You can take a person out of the hood, but not the hood out of them." Just like the racist remarks of this officer, " You could advance a person, but their personality is still instilled in them." Since leadership begins at the top then descends, his whole department is just like him, or have adopted qualities of their superior. You (the reader) may be wondering what I'am tryingto express, but "Maybe the cops are the criminals, and we are the victims?" C. Okwuego 0424

It is sad on how people perceive of a police officer.

I just hope these persons never need to use the assistance of a police officer. Some people are so badly influence of police officers that all they have to say is " maybe the cops are the criminals". Let me tell you something about the violent society that we live in; there are civilians, law enforcement personnel and criminal.

Which side are you in? What side do you want to protect your property and assist you in times of need?

Next time you call a cop a criminal know him first and walk his/her shoes for one day, ok?

When a cop kills someone in society regardless the situation police officers are always criticised but when a cop is killed in the line of duty no one comes out and say anything I think its sad what is happening to our society .The cops are our friends not the enemies.

When it comes to see what is fair or not about this society that we live in.i will say no the society it self is not fair. When is a black or hispanic male or female being shot or being killed the excuse is becuase either they did not wanted to coporate with the police officers or they put resistance, but we still human beings.and when it comes to the police officers being killed they panic ,is all over the news yeah it is sad but we need to b realistics and fair.i feel bad if either one gets killed or is a victim of another,JY-4946

It's always sad to lose officers, but isn't it about time that people woke up and realized that crime rates would be lower if people weren't so racist? If a racist man is the police chief, how can you expect him to run a fair and decent department? We need to rebuild our foundations, and you would think that by now with all of the diversity in this country that people would be more accepting, but I guess that's too big of a dream yet.

This is really bad to see or to hear those type of incident. the worse part is,it always happened to the Spanish and the black ones.if we let it going on like that, what do you think will happen in 10 years from now?. we have to do some thing about that racist matter or this country will end very badly.js7920
